President Putin Proposes Face-to-Face Negotiation with President Zelensky
In a phone call with President Erdogan of Turkey, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin requested a venue in Istanbul to hold face-to-face negotiations with Ukraine towards ending the conflict. President Erdogan supported the initiative and assured Türkiye’s readiness to provide all possible assistance in organizing the Ukraine-Russia negotiations.
This was announced by President Putin on Sunday, May 11, 2025, emphasizing Russia’s readiness for direct talks with Ukraine on Thursday, 15th May, 2025. This talk, President Putin stressed, aims at eliminating the root causes of the conflict without preconditions to achieve a long-lasting peace.
President Trump, who has been adamantly pursuing the end of the conflict, has urged Ukraine to agree to this proposed meeting in Istanbul as he sees these talks as the only way to determine whether or not a deal is possible.
